Founded in '08, WePay is a credit card processing alternative similar to PayPal and
ProPay. The company offers an online payment service that primarily serves peer-to-peer
money transfers, but can be used by organizations and businesses to collect payments
from donors and customers as well. WePay allows virtually anyone to set up an account
to collect payments via credit card and ACH bank transfers. The service has no monthly
fees, no service length requirement and no setup fees. The company collects a fee of
3.5% for credit card payments and $0.50 for bank transfer payments, and provides
several tools for collecting money.
In February 2012, it added the ability for sellers to invoice customers with click of a
button. They've expanded from targeting users who want to send funds to one another, to
a solution for small online businesses that want a low-fee and easy way to collect
money for purchases. Naturally, with such a huge conglomerate like PayPal, there will
always be the unsatisfied market of users who have been banned or for some other reason
cannot have a PayPal account. WePay will try to appeal to that audience.
